Statistics

On 10 March, I./JG 2 reported that in ten operational days it had flown 11 missions with 110 sorties by Fw 190s and 24 by Bf 109s. Eleven aircraft had been lost, seven of them through enemy action; three pilots had been killed in action, one was missing, two had been wounded and three had baled out. Average strength had been 30 aircraft and serviceability 60%. These figures indicate that in addition to six personnel casualties and one crash landing detailed above, another four aircraft had been lost in non-combat accidents without injury to their pilots.

By comparison, during the whole of March III./JG 53 operated on 13 days and put up 391 sorties in 35 operations over the Anzio and Cassino areas. One pilot was killed; another was missing; two were prisoners of war and two wounded. The Gruppe lost 25 aircraft, of which 10 were a total loss by enemy action. Nine were damaged by handling failures; two owing to lack of fuel; and an an unspecified number by bad airfield conditions.
